Coffee Cup
Coffee Cups are an every day part of our everyday lives, but how many times have you stopped to think about just how many different types of coffee cups there are, designed to suit the many different types of coffee . . . . . never . . . thought so!
Coffee cups are simply the containers from which we consume our daily cups of coffee, generally made from some sort of ceramic with a glaze, and of course a handle (just the one) so that we can safely pick up the coffee cup, carry it and drink from it when the coffee inside is piping hot (the way coffee should be . . . except for iced coffee of course) without burning our fingers. Ceramic coffee cups also act as a bit of insulation to keep the coffee inside nice and hot, but, as soon as you’ve finished drinking your coffee it won’t matter if you wash out the ceramic coffee cup in cold water . . . it won’t crack, that’s the whole point of it really, compared to some glass containers which would break.
Coffee Cup Styles for Styles of Coffee
Let’s take a little time out to think about the different types of coffee cups and coffee mugs;
- Averaged sized cylindrical ceramic glazed coffee cups are by far the most common, and can be found in the majority of coffee shops, bars, restaurants, hotels and kitchen cabinets across the world.
- Extra large coffee cups are popular amongst extra thirsty coffee drinkers. You know the type who need at least 3 cups within 10 minutes of opening their eyes in the mornings . . . why not just have one extra large coffee cup . . . . sounds like a good plan.
- Novelty coffee cups make a great gift (for the person who has everything else, drinks a lot of coffee and has broken their novelty coffee cup which you bought them last year, either that or you’re trying to tell them something). These are generally more in the “coffee mug” genre, and can include humorous quotes “Is It Friday Yet?” . . . “Worlds Greatest Boss” . . . . that’s a corker don’t you think, as well as other stuff like “I Love Grandma” and “Don’t Be Fooled, I Just Act Like I Care”. My personal favorite is the “tired cow” coffee mug which implores you “please drink black coffee ‘cos I’m very tired”. If you’re feeling very generous you can also buy this coffee cups filled with stuff like chocolates or other gifts.
Do you think that the people who made this video realize that there’s a fundamental problem . . . you can’t actually read the majority of the funny messages. Oh well, never mind, I’m sure they’re hilarious.
- Footed coffee cups are quite humorous too, (and often inscribed with similar words of wisdom to the above). These types of coffee cups are often a little bit taller than your general ceramic style of coffee cup, rather elegant looking actually.
- Stainless steel coffee cups are available for traveling as well as in styles designed to be used in the home. Very often these types of coffee cups are designed so that they will stack one inside the other, very good space saving idea when kitchen cabinet space is limited.
- Glass coffee cups can look very stylish, and are often incorporated with a metal holder and handle.
- Travel coffee cups are usually made of stainless steel with lots of extra insulation, designed to keep your coffee nice and hot, even if you’re outside in the cold. Travel coffee cups usually have some sort of lid too, so that you can walk around with them without spilling.
Okay, just a couple of questions. What does the coffee taste like . . . and where’s the lid? I do spill a bit you know.
- Espresso and latte style coffee cups often have a saucer . . . a bit like a tea cup really.
- “Coffee cups to go” must also have a place on this page . . . usually made from cardboard, paper or some sort of styrofoam, they often have a separate sleeve to not only keep the coffee hot on the inside of the coffee cup, but to make sure that the outer edge of the coffee cup doesn’t get too hot and burn your hands. A plastic lid of some sort (with a little hole to drink through) helps to stop spillages. These paper cups are often emblazoned with the name of the coffee shop from where you bought your coffee to go!
What do you need for “The Worlds Best Cup Of Coffee”? You need “The Worlds Best Coffee Cup” of course . . .
